Our Aim

Garages subscribing to the Code have committed to:

  • honest and fair services
  • open and transparent pricing
  • completing work as agreed
  • invoices that match quoted prices
  • competent and conscientious staff
  • a straightforward complaints procedure

The Code itself provides you with:

  • a free consumer advice line
  • free conciliation and low cost independent arbitration
  • more rights than required by law

The Code sets out and defines the promises made by subscribers regarding:

  • Advertising
  • The booking process
  • Carrying out the work
  • Billing
  • Staff
  • Complaints handling
  • Dispute resolution and disciplinary action

The Code is voluntary - any garage can sign up to it, providing they meet its requirements.

Subscribers are required to comply with the requirements of the Code on a daily basis, which includes providing you with the information you need to make informed decisions about work that needs to be carried out to your vehicle, what it will cost, and how long it will take.

By subscribing to the Code, and displaying the logo, a garage is declaring its promise to operate as a responsible, accountable business.

It's a mark of assurance for you – if you see the logo, you know the garage in question has committed to certain standards.

This, of course, encourages all garages to raise their game. Everyone signed up to the Code has signed up to a better way of working.
